MOVE TO INTENSIVE FARMING.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, is aiming to modernize the countries farming methods, taking the production of pigs and poultry from the back yard environment, to modern farming techniques.

Do Kim Tuye, head of the Cattle Breeding Department is also targeting the export of meat to China, Hong Kong and Singapore.By 2010 it is hoped to be able to produce 3.2 million tons of meat and by 2020 5.5 million tons.

Tuyen said, "by 2020 per capita output will be, 56 kilos of meat and 10 liters of milk".

He added that by 2020 all meat plans will have their own waste treatment systems and by products will be used for animal feed, as currently Vietnam imports most of its animal feeding requirements
