Around 2,000 people from all parts of the UK attended a sale of vintage tractors and farm machinery in Shropshire.
Halls’ auctioneer Nick Hyne said it was one of the largest attendances for a dispersal auction of this type in Shropshire for many years. More than 850 lots went under the hammer and 220 different buyers left the auction at Fitz Mill, Montford Bridge, near Shrewsbury with items.
Twenty vintage tractors in various states of repair, a wide range of vintage farm machinery, other vehicles and workshop equipment, which belonged to the late Craig Beaman were sold.
Top prices were £4,100 for a Caterpillar D2 Crawler, £2,200 for a Ferguson 178 tractor and £1,150 for a Ferguson rear end jib. Harry Ferguson and Massey Ferguson vintage machinery attracted a particularly strong trade.
Mr Hyne said it was a unique auction, which had exceeded his expectations. "Mr Beaman was very well known in the local community and had a passion for collecting vintage tractors and machinery," he added. "The Beaman family had lived at Fitz Mill for over 100 years."
Leading on from the auction, Halls will be including a vintage section in the company’s next plant and machinery collective auction at Shrewsbury Auction Centre on August 5, with entries closing on July 25.
"We now have an extensive mailing list of vintage equipment buyers who will be receiving our auction catalogue when we offer lots of interest to them," added Mr Hyne.
