WALES.
TB FARMER CALLS FOR INQUIRY.
The farmer in Wales who sent his 330 cows for slaughter last week, after already having slaughtered 220 calves, is demanding an independent inquiry into the handling of bovine TB in Wales.
This was of course a devastating blow to Laurence Harris, who had built up a pedigree herd of Holstein dairy cows with such success, he was a frequent award winner for his dairy products.
Mr Harris in angry about the handling of the situation, by the veterinarians from the Welsh Assembly, in regard to the test results of his cattle.
Apparently after loading 46 inconclusive reactors and sending them for slaughter, he was informed that these cattle did not require immediate slaughter, having been previously told that they did.
How amazing that 60 years ago, TB testing was done with great gusto and common sense, it was indeed the same tragic blow for farmers, having to slaughter cows in their prime but the disease was eradicated.
Today with all the technology at our disposal, the government appears to be going two steps forward and three steps back in eradication of bovine TB.
One can only sympathize with farmers like Laurence Harris, who do everything correct in their animal husbandry to be struck down by this disease, that should have been cleared up years ago.
Making matter worse the apparent incompetence of the government officials.
