Where does milk come from?

John Lougher, NFU Cymru member and dairy farmer from the Vale of Glamorgan will be visiting primary school pupils in Bridgend this Wednesday with a real life local milking cow to help explain where the milk we drink comes from as part of School Milk Week (10-14 October).

The primary school is set for an udderly great day with a whole host of activities taking place and Jane Hutt, Business Minster for the Welsh Assembly will also be joining them for a class assembly.

John said, "This is a fantastic way of making children understand the link between the farmer that produces the milk and the drink that they enjoy every day as part of the subsidised school milk scheme."

School Milk Week has been launched by Dairy UK and the Milk Development Council in schools across England and Wales to highlight the issue of unused European Union milk subsidies which has resulted in thousands of children missing out on milk at school each day.

A specially prepared class assembly will take place to teach the pupils at Maes-yr-Haul about where milk comes from and its benefits as part of a healthy diet for children. Julie Davies, school milk facilitator for Wales, will also be present on the day to help teachers implement their very own school milk scheme.
