Rob reminds growers that the company has been promoting full width tray testing using a full set of trays, well ahead of the game. “We are pleased that all other testers will now have to step up to these exacting standards if they want to be part of this new national spreader scheme. SCS will continue to operate as an independent company with no allegiances to any manufacturers; either machinery or fertiliser; so growers will benefit from unbiased testing that ensures they get the best out of their fertiliser and spreader combination.”
The National Spreader Testing Scheme replicates the already successful National Sprayer Testing Scheme operated by a network of experienced engineers. Rob Foxall challenges growers, however, by asking them if they really want to continue struggling with different fertiliser and spreader combinations, not sure of what settings to use. “Or do they want to benefit from the expertise of the successful SCS team who help each other with knowledge exchange and have the reassurance of over 200 years of experience collectively? Chances are, no matter what growers are up against, one of the SCS team will have faced it before, so rather than wasting time and also expensive fertiliser, it makes more sense to ask someone who knows.”
SCS is offering training for potential spreader testers to help them gain the City & Guilds qualifications introduced in 2011. Appropriate kit as detailed in the scheme requirements will be available.
