Wynnstay to double Scottish fertiliser capacity
Wynnstay is set to double its fertiliser blending capacity in Scotland with a new Montrose plant expected to become one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe.
Glasson Fertilisers will relocate to a substantially larger site at Barrack Road, where a new high-capacity blending plant is due to become fully operational in the first half of 2027.
The timing is intended to bring the facility online ahead of the peak spring fertiliser season.
Wynnstay said the extra capacity would strengthen its ability to serve existing customers in Scotland and provide room for further growth.
Production will continue at the existing Cobden Street site while the new plant is developed and commissioned.
Both facilities are expected to operate in parallel for a period to maintain customer supplies during the transition.
The project forms part of Wynnstay’s Strategy Genesis growth plan, which is focused on investing in areas offering the strongest opportunities while improving operational efficiency.
It follows the expansion of the group’s fertiliser operation at Avonmouth and will further strengthen its manufacturing network.

He said the new Montrose plant would provide the infrastructure needed to support future demand.
“The new Montrose facility will double our blending capacity in Scotland, enhance operational efficiency and provide the infrastructure needed to support future growth and customer demand. It represents a significant commitment to our Scottish operations and the customers we serve.”
Wynnstay said the development had been brought forward through collaboration between teams across the group and external partners.
The company has not disclosed the value of the investment.
Brand said the project builds on the group’s previous investment at Avonmouth and reflects its wider approach to expanding manufacturing capacity where it sees long-term opportunity.
He added: “We are looking forward to bringing the new facility into operation ahead of the 2027 spring season and creating a modern platform from which to continue growing our business in Scotland.”
Once complete, Wynnstay expects the Montrose development to become one of the largest fertiliser blending facilities in Europe.
With commissioning targeted ahead of spring 2027, the expanded operation is expected to give Wynnstay significantly greater capacity to serve farmers and agricultural customers across Scotland.
