Organisers, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society have announced that their flagship event will include "The Yorkshire Life Cookery Theatre" featuring some of the region's top Michelin starred chefs as well as producers of the food which they will use. The theatre's theme will be "Say Yes to Yorkshire Produce."
Nigel Pulling, Chief Executive of the Society said: "This is a wonderful addition to the attractions already lined up for Countryside Live! Here in Yorkshire we produce some of Britain's finest food, so it's entirely appropriate that we support the farming industry by using it in the demonstrations. It makes sense to show people how their food makes its way literally from field to fork and to have the food producers there to give the background information, gives an extra dimension."
Dates for Countryside Live! are Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 October and the venue is The Yorkshire Event Centre at the Great Yorkshire Showground. It is sponsored by Yorkshire Forward.
A team of top chefs will give demonstrations throughout the two days including:
Richard Allen, Head Chef at The Fourth Floor Café & Bar at Harvey Nichols, Leeds,
Frances Atkins - the Michelin-starred chef and owner of The Yorke Arms, Ramsgill in Nidderdale
Tessa Bramley - a Master Chef of Great Britain, TV cook, author and owner of the Michelin-starred restaurant "The Old Vicarage" near Sheffield.
The demonstrations will be hosted by Elaine Lemm, the Food & Wine Editor of Yorkshire Life Magazine. She said: "The aim of the theatre is to show the diversity as well as the quality of food produced here in Yorkshire and to demonstrate recipes which will be quick, inspirational and easily achieved at home."
Exotic, international as well as traditional recipes will be shown, illustrating the cross culture of the county's fare. "There are more 'starred' and commended restaurants and dining pubs in Yorkshire than any other county in the UK so teaming up top chefs with superb food is a recipe for success," said Elaine.
Countryside Live! also includes the Yorkshire Woodfair 2003. Now in its fourth year, the woodfair will be the biggest forestry industry event in the region with a wide range of products, services and advice available. Elsewhere there will be livestock classes, demonstrations of country skills within "The Village", a children's education area as well as a wide range of stands with everything from technical farming equipment to unusual gifts - ideal for Christmas.
