Young Farmers take on Africa‏
Having spent the last 4-5 years at college and University 3 young farmers from Hertfordshire and Dorset have set themselves the challenge of a lifetime – to drive to Cape Town in a colossal truck that they have spent the past year restoring to raise money for the African Charity 'Send a Cow' - Livestock for Life. Friends, Haydn Williams, Steve Abbott and Ashley Hunter will set out from Haydn's family farm on 29th November and travel through 20 African countries to reach their ultimate destination Cape Town. This incredible journey is made all the more unbelievable by the fact that it will be completed in a 1960 MAN 630 7.5 tonne truck! The dedicated team of three spent a great deal of time and money repairing and modifying the truck – it even includes a sleeping platform on the roof!,
It is hoped that this ambitious journey will help to raise much needed money and awareness for Send a Cow. Send a Cow have been working in Africa since 1988 helping rural communities develop solutions to their poverty through provision of Livestock, training and advice. Started by farmers, Send a Cow understands how to make land productive by restoring the balance between people, livestock and the environment. So many Africans fight a losing battle with poverty. They have the ability and will to build better lives for themselves and their children, but they lack the esources. All donations will go directly to the charity, all costs for the expedition have been funded entirely by the team themselves, by working on farms in the UK. The team will be visiting one of the projects in Uganda during their travels and hopefully passing on some of their agricultural know how along the way.
