Zig-zag public path across coastal farmland
A planning inspector, working for the Welsh Assembly Government has ruled in a public inquiry in favour of a new public path (under section 26, Highways Act 1980) crossing our coastal farm, at Clyn-yr-ynys, Gwbert, Cardigan, for 0.75 miles in a zig-zag, half-swastika, shape, alongside three hedge-banks, with absolutely no fencing being installed on the field sides protecting 180 acres of farmland.
On the hedge-bank sides, there will be a one metre high sheep fence, topped by barbed wire. There are also three 12 ft farm gates in these hedges to access the farm fields. They cannot be locked and are often left wide open as farm traffic, carrying silage and grain crops etc, has to pass through them for much of the year.
On the other side of these fences and gates is our 160-acre, entry fee-charging tourist attraction 'Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park'. Then the council's path actually enters our farm park for a further 0.5 miles.
