Another First - An Organic Farm Approved High Magnesium Lick

The Denis Brinicombe Group launches a high content magnesium mineral lick, pre-approved for use by organic stock farmers, today.

The Simply Green Magnesium Tubby, containing 10% magnesium, is formulated on a seaweed meal base, significantly improving palatability and encouraging the intakes of sufficient magnesium at pasture. This helps to overcome the bitterness and unpalatability of magnesium, which can significantly lower the intakes that are necessary to reduce the risk of hypomagnesaemia (grass staggers).

As well as magnesium the tub contains a balance of phosphorous, calcium and sodium, along with added selenium, iodine and zinc as standard. With a high inclusion of seaweed meal naturally occurring trace elements are supplied in abundance, which all help to balance forage and raise overall animal health.

“Following the recent successful launch of the original Simply Green Tubby we identified the need for an organic tub with increased magnesium in the formulation for this critical time of the year when we see a flush of lush grass and grass staggers can be a real problem,” said James Brinicombe, Group Director. “Approval by the Soil Association means that we save the customer the trouble of applying for derogation every time they want to use the Simply Green Magnesium Tubby, so it is easy to buy and easy to use,” he added.

The Simply Green Magnesium Tubby is a solid brown/green non-molassed mineral lick designed for use in any organic farm situation where there is a risk of grass staggers. It can be also used for magnesium supplementation in cattle herds, for instance during the dry cow period or in sheep flocks pre-lambing.

With an Organic Certification Number issued by the Soil Association members do not need to apply for derogation before feeding to stock.
