Argentine farmers, gov’t sign agreements; farm leaders say they’re wary of empty promises Argentina’s government and disgruntled farm leaders have reached a series of economic accords that a Cabinet minister says could bring an end to nearly one year of conflict, but which farmers say is only a step in the right direction.

Production Minister Debora Giorgi says the government has signed several agreements eliminating export taxes on dairy goods, increasing the export quota for beef and guaranteeing a higher price for wheat sold domestically.

Argentina is one of the top exporters of soy, wheat, corn and beef.

Interior Ministry Florencio Randazzo said Tuesday that government officials haven’t ruled out a plan to launch a grain regulating agency in the future, but that they are not considering such a proposal now.
