COST OF FOOD BASKET DOWN 2.5%

The cost of a basic basket of food goods, dropped by 2.5 % in December.

This was caused mainly by the drop in the prices of meat and vegetables, which have in fact declined a further 10% since November.

Staples such as flour, bread and rice, have increased in price but overall the news is good.

Private polls, show inflation at around 20% and forecast no change for the next 12 months. Despite this, the government released December figures on Monday of inflation at 9% for the month, which has now been questioned by Standard & Poor.
