ARGENTINA TO LOSE THIRD PLACE AS MAJOR BEEF EXPORTER.

Figures and projections for 2008, show Argentina losing its place as the third largest beef exporter in the world.

The main reason is the advent of the soy boom and farmers switching to arable farming, coupled with the increased domestic consumption, taking 85% of beef produced.

Argentina will export 550,000 tons this year.

Brazil are forecast to export 2.2 mullion tons, Australia 1.36 million tons, USA 680,000 tons, India (the new kids on the block) a massive 800,000 tons.

This will put Argentina at no 5 in the world rankings, assuming the projections materialize.
