ARGENTINA-FIGHTS BREAK OUT WITH FARMERS AND TRUCKERS.

Farmers in several provinces are staging roadblocks and stopping trucks to make sure they are not carrying grain or livestock.

Incidents were reported between farmers and teamsters on Route 14 near Gualeguaychú city in Entre Ríos province — one of the centres of the protest. Television channels displayed images of farmers struggling with truckers demanding to be allowed to drive through the pickets. Minor brawls were reported. One of the farming leaders received a death threat yesterday

The commercial strike was called for seven days last Friday by the members of the Liaison Committee — which groups the country’s four major farm lobbies — and is set to finish on March 27, but yesterday was the first working day of the week.
