FARMERS REFRAIN FROM BURNING BRIDGES.

A day after waling out of a meeting with the government, the Liaison Committee –the group that represents the four main farming groups in Argentina, decided to halt the planned protests.

The farmers say they still harbor hope that authorities will provide a solution to the crisis affecting them.

Although protest measures have not been adopted, sources did not rule out action in the near future and said that they are "preserving the spirit of protest".

The farmers are critical of the lack of initiatives from the government to help the farming sector that has been hit by the worst drought in the history of Argentina.

Farmers are demanding the elimination of export duties on grain and meat and asking for the current restrictions on meat exports be lifted.

Two weeks ago Trade Secretary officers agreed to purchase 150,000 tons of corn from grain producers, in order that the corn be distributed to cattle feed-lots in Argentina belonging to smaller farmers.

7,000 tons was given free to farmers to help them through the current crisis.

Light rail fell in the province on Buenos Aires all day Wednesday, sufficient to breath life back into the land but not enough to have any real effect.
