FARMERS WANTED IN PARLIAMENT.

Argentina’s dispersed opposition parties, are scrambling to lure farm leaders of the countries longest ever farm rebellion, to join them and enter the mid-term elections in May of 2009, in preparation for the general election in 2011.

However the marriage between the farmers and the politicians, will not be an easy one, as the opposition political map has yet to be drawn, also farmers are traditionally part of the ruling Peronist party that is currently in power.

The headlines in the press of Buenos Aires, are " The cow experts and the coup mongers", referring to the words of former president Nestor Kirchner.

The world economic crisis, de-fused tensions for the last couple of months, however the governments refusal to reduce the 35% tax of soy, is causing great concern since the price has dropped 50%.

The farmers will do nothing until February, as they are all now sunning themselves in the resort of Mar del Plata, for their annual 6 week vacations. There in nothing on this earth that will part the gentleman farmer and his holidays, according to the local press.

Meanwhile the farmers are celebrating the newly formed "Inter caucus" that was formed this month, which is similar to the one in Brazil. The new body composed of legislators and farmers, will oversee farm bills that are put before the lower House of Congress.
