ARGENTINA-FARMERS WARN CONFLICT FAR FROM OVER.
Despite the government and farmers signing a deal and a positive press conferenence from goovernment officials, the farmers warn that the confict is far from over.
President Cristina Kirchner yesterday unexpectedly appeared at a meeting between government officials and farmers who are challenging her over duties and a barrage of other issues, and contributed to what farmers described as a feeling that confidence could be restored and that some measures in the right direction were agreed on. However, farmers warned that, contrary to what Production Minister Débora Giorgi said and what Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo suggested, the one-year-old conflict "is far from over."
The accords that Giorgi said should be fully in force in the coming two weeks imply the partial lifting on a ban on exports of wheat, beef and dairy products imposed in 2006 in an effort to keep domestic prices under control.
