FISHING NOT VIABLE.
Fisheries in Argentina has become non profitable according to industry spokespeople in the main fishing port of Mar del Plata, where 50 % of the nations fishing catch is landed.
The president of Argentina’s Chamber of Fishing Mariano Perez said, since 2001 the price of fuel has increased 200%, labor costs have gone up by 230% and engine parts and spares have also doubled in price.
The export tax on fish is reimbursed back to the industry according to Oscar Fortunato, the Argentine Fisheries Council but the industry need assistance from the government to remain viable.
The UK has applied to the United Nations, to extend its fishing rights around Ascension Island in the South Atlantic, which will cause more supply shortages to Argentina.
