ARGENTINA-PRESIDENTS DAUGHTER LUCKY ESCAPE.

The bodyguards of Florencia Kirchner, the daughter of President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Peronist party head Néstor Kirchner, were involved in a gunfight late on Saturday after a group of criminals tried to rob one of the cars of the official bodyguard. Police sources said two criminals were arrested, while other two were still fugitive.

Two of Florencia Kirchner’s bodyguards were waiting for the President’s daughter outside a friend’s house in Vicente López — the same district where the presidential residence is located — around midnight of Saturday, when a group of four criminals carrying guns got off a pick-up truck. The members of the presidential police custody — who were backed by other two officers who were parked only metres ahead — resisted the robbery attempt and got involved in gunfight with the criminals, wounding one of them.

Two 19-year-old criminals were arrested, while the other two ran away and where being sought after by the police yesterday. The criminal wounded was taken to the Vicente López public hospital under custody.

Police sources denied any political implications in the episode and said the criminals did not know the car belonged to the presidential custody as sources indicated it was a random robbery attempt.

During the gunfire, 18-year-old Florencia Kirchner was inside the house with her friends and was not injured. Police sources confirmed the Toyota pick-up truck used by the criminals had been stolen hours before the incident.
