ARGENTINE-NEW BEEF QUOTA.

Argentina has agreed to raise the quota for beef exports as one of a number of changes to agricultural policies that farmers across the country have pushed for, according to international media reports.

Buenos Aires will raise the current beef export quota by 60,000 tons to a total of 610,000 tons, as well as scrap taxes on dairy goods and increase wheat prices, government officials were quoted as saying.

Farmers have been pressing the government to eliminate restrictions on exports of all agricultural goods following the fall of commodities prices and devastating droughts. The two sides are slated to resume negotiations March 10.

Argentine farm groups halted grain sales and blocked highways last year in protest of tax increases and a beef-export ban.
