Argentina-Striking farmers to meet government.

ARGENTINA-FARMERS PREPARE TO MEET GOVERNMENT.

There is no doubt that the farmers have scaled down the rhetoric against the government in the last day or so, despite the strike and boycott that is now in place in the farming community in Argentina.

Carlos Reutemann the former governor of Santa Fe and Formula One racing driver seems set to take over the government in the elections of 2001, assuming the current government can last that long.

The farmers have thrown in their lot behind the racing driver turned politician and the meetings this week will perhaps decide the future of the farming communirt and the present government.

There will be no cattle market in Buenos Aires on Monday and mybe none on Tuesday as farmers refuse to sell any grain or livestock.
