Argentina-Tax breaks for small farmers.

ARGENTINA:

60,000 SMALL FARMERS BENIFIT DROM NEW TAX BREAKS

The Argentine Farmers Federation, one of the leading four farm groups, involved in last years blockade hailed this as a step in the right direction.

The tax breaks apply to fuel costs in diesel oil used in the running of small farms. A small farm in Argentina is one under 150 hectares, in the fertile La Pampa and any farm under 350 hectares in the rest of the country.

Along with the tax breaks, the government have opened the doors for the export of 500,000 tones of beef in 2009, which has delighted the farming and meat community’s.

Talks between the farmers groups and the government will begin in February.


There has been no agreement or suggested alternatives, to the tax hike on soybeans, which was the initial cause of the recent dispute, that brought the nation to a standstill for four months in 2008.
