CATTLE MARKETS.

Mercado de Liniers had 31,567 head of cattle on offer for week ending 31 January and trade was very slow in all departments.

Many of the cows on offer would have been left on good feed in normal years to come on to the market in May and June, the drought conditions have made this impossible as cattle are losing condition rather than gaining.

Supermarket sales were up by 12% for the month of December and prices for meat are now value for money.


Prime steers USD$80c/kg

Heavy steers US$70C/kg.

Yearling steers 85c/kg

Yearling heifers 80c/kg

Butchers cows Angus US$55c/kg

Bulls US$50c/kg

Steaker cows US$40c/kg


Manufacturing cows US$30c/kg.

The trade for weaners and calves has been slow as the weather remains dry, the best lines of cattle available can be picked up for around US$90c/kg.
