Dead monkeys have been found in the jungles of north Argentina, close to the borders with Brazil and Paraguay, probably caused by yellow fever, according to local sanitary authorities.

The discovery follows the reported deaths of two jungle workers in the locality last week, however the Corrientes sanitary authorities, were quick to point out there is no risk of another yellow fever epidemic, since 95% of the exposed population have been immunized against yellow fever.

Five dead monkeys were found last week and a sixth one over the weekend, in the region north west of Misiones.

Yellow fever is caused by a small virus that is spread by the bite of a mosquito, and is very common in South America and anyone can catch the disease.

The first symptoms are headache, vomiting and loss of appetite, which is followed by jaundice and the skin goes yellow, thus the name.
