Australian meat producers keep pushing for better access to Europe

Australian major red meat marketing group has vowed to continue its push to expand meat quotas in Europe.
Meat and Livestock Australia’s regional manager for Europe, David Jones, says currently Australia can only sell 7000 tonnes of beef to the EU.
He says Australia is now part of the new Europe Market Access Committee, which puts pressure on the European Commission to increase quotas.
"Just before I came down to Australia I was in Brussels and I met with the commission, and they’ve reassured me ’we’re not going to increase protectionism’," he says.
"So that’s good news to hear, you know, but by the same token there, we continue to knock on the door and hopefully they’ll open it a bit wider for us."
