Australia-Bid for Middle East trade.

AUSTRALIA-HALAL SLAUGHTER.

A slaughterman has been hired at an abattoir south of Mackay, Queensland Australia, which his will allow the company to sell beef to Islamic countries.

According to reports, the Borthwicks Meatworks reopens today with approximately 150,000 head of cattle which are expected to be processed over the season.

Re-enter Islamic market

Simon Stahl, who is the Managing director has stated that the slaughterman is halal accredited and that this will permit the firm to re-enter the lucrative Islamic market.

"It was a bit more difficult four or five years ago, particularly [with] some of the protocols." There was a bit of confusion over what was acceptable and what was not. A lot of gray areas I believe have been sorted out, so I think it’s a lot easier for us to produce," said Stahl.

"There’s a lot of Muslims around the world that are interested in Australian beef," he added.
