AUSTRALIA-CATTLE MARKETS.
A mixed quality yarding of 5500 head were sold at the Roma store cattle sale yesterday where the market was steady to slightly easier for most descriptions.
The best quality cattle matched last week’s rates with heavy feeder steers topping at 184c/kg (live) and weaner steers making 218c/kg.
The Roma Store Index fell slightly to 100.1 points.
Steers in the 400-550kg range topped at 184c/kg and averaged 159c/kg (-6); steers in the 350-400kg range reached 190c/kg and averaged 164c/kg (-14); and steers in the 280-350kg range reached 196c/kg and averaged 175c/kg (-5).
Steers in the 220-280kg range reached 217c/kg and averaged 186c/kg (-1); while weaners under 220kg topped at 218c/kg and averaged 196c/kg (+12).
Heifers in the 350-450kg range topped at 166c/kg and averaged 146c/kg (-4); heifers in the 280-350kg range topped at 169c/kg and averaged 153c/kg (+4); heifers in the 220-280kg range topped at 174c/kg and averaged 158c/kg (+0); and heifers under 220kg topped at 188c/kg and averaged 175c/kg (+8).
Cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 140c/kg and averaged 127c/kg (-1), while cows over 500kg reached 139c/kg and averaged 135c/kg (-1).
Cows and calves topped at $950/unit.
