AUSTRALIA-CATTLE MARKETS-ROMA 8,500 HEAD ON OFFER.

A total of 8500 head of mixed quality cattle were yarded at yesterday’s Roma store sale, where weaners hit a high of 212c/kg.

Heavier feeder weight cattle prices were higher than last week’s rates, but younger steers and heifers were harder to sell as dry weather conditions persist across parts of Queensland.

The major of cattle yarded were from the local Roma district and western New South Wales.

Steers in the 400 to 550kg range topped at 182 cents and averaged 169c/kg (+4); steers in the 350-400kg range topped at 194c/kg and averaged 172c/kg (-1); and steers in the 280 to 350kg range topped at 196c/kg and averaged 171c/kg (-10).

Steers in the 220-280kg range topped at 204c/kg and averaged 178c (-11), while weaner steers under 220kg made 212c/kg and averaged 183c (-10).

The Scott family,Ruby Farm, Wallumbilla, sold Charolais-cross steers for 176c/kg, weighing 494kg, to return $863/head.

The Taylor family, Marjundale, Injune, sold Santa-cross steers to 174c, 441kg, to make $767.

Warby and Warby, Wybara, Roma, sold Brahman steers 167c, 438kg, to return $735.

Harrison Harvest, Glencoe, Mitchell, sold Charolais-cross steers for 175c, 434kg, to earn $751.


The Thorne family, Homeleigh, Mitchell, sold Santa-cross steers for 176c, 429kg, to return $754.

Ridgelands Grazing Co, Ridgelands, Injune, sold Angus steers to 175c, 427kg, to make an average of $749.

Terry Jukes, Armadilla, Morven, sold Droughtmaster-cross steers to 171c, 397kg, to earn $673.

The Cormack family, Crystalbrooke, Wallumbilla, sold Charolais-cross steers for 173c, 394kg, to make $672.

The Cluff family, Wilamba, Amby, sold Santa-cross steers to 175c, 391kg, to return $659.

The Joliffe family, Walhallow, Amby, sold Santa steers to 182c, 391kg, to make $713.

Heifers in the 350 to 450kg range topped at 172c and averaged 152c (+3), while those in the 280 to 350kg category made 181c and averaged 155c (-2).

Weaner heifers in the 220 to 280kg range made 180c and averaged 161c (0), and those under 220kg topped at 182c and averaged 166c (-1).

The Ward family, Karana, Injune, sold Charbray heifers for 161c, weighing 439kg, to return $708.

Oakleigh Grazing Co, Oakleigh, Morven, sold Brahman-cross heifers to 160c, 268kg, to make $428.

The Foster family, Nunya, Wallumbilla, sold Santa-cross heifers for 158c, 312kg, to earn $494.

The Frith family, Wondown, Wallumbilla, sold Santa-cross heifers to 158c, 312kg, to make $480.

The Murray family, Moorlands, Roma, sold Angus heifers to 166c, 238kg, to make $389.

Cows in the 300-400kg range topped at 126c/kg and averaged 104c/kg (-7), while cows in the 400-500kg range topped at 134c/kg and averaged 119c/kg (-6).


Bulls up to 400kg topped at 171c/kg and averaged 147c/kg (-17), bulls 400 to 600kg reached 155c/kg and averaged 126c/kg (-12).

Cows and calves sold from $500 to $890/unit.
