CATTLE RUSTLING COSTING $2 MILLION A YEAR
In the state of Queensland alone there were between 3000 and 4500 head of cattle stolen, between 2006 and 2008,costing the industry an estimated $2million a year.
The Department of Primary Industries, has been engaged in meetings with the Queensland police to try to remedy things.
The general feeling is that micro chip implants, to replace ear tags may be the answer, as tags and brands can be modified or changed.
The problem appears to be on the increase as the values of cattle become higher.
Cattle production is a $3.7 billion industry in Queensland.
