"Very pleased" was the response from David Bondfield when asked his thoughts on the Palgrove Charolais Stud’s female sale held on Saturday at Dalveen, which topped at $16,000 and averaged $4481.
While the sale did not reproduce the record-breaking prices of Palgrove’s two previous female sales, the strong average, 100pc clearance, the diversity of buyers - with one lot selling to the USA - were all positives taken out of the sale by Mr Bondfield.
"Given the current economic environment I feel the sale defied the uncertainty in the marketplace and buyers adopted a positive approach to the medium to long term outcomes that their Palgrove purchase will deliver," Mr Bondfield said.
The first of the eleven special donor cows offered, Palgrove Dream Girl 14 ET, set the top price on the day of $16,000.
The full-French cow, that had six of her progeny sell for $52,000 at auction, was purchased By Jim Wedge, Ascot Charolais Stud, Greenmount.
Ascot Charolais Stud was the successful bidders of the $15,000 second-top priced Palgrove Dappo 11, a 9-year-old daughter of Fernvale Prime Mover. Her outstanding production record identified her as one of the leading cows at Palgrove.
Ascot also purchased the four year old PTIC Palgrove Desire 98 ET, for $10,000 and unjoined heifer Palgrove Harem 39 (P) ET for $6,500 both topping their sections of the draft.
