Australia-Farmers helping Farmers in fire tradgedy.
AUSTRALIA-FARMERS HELPING FARMERS.
Already 150 semi-trailer loads, or 2,000 tonnes, of hay are on their way into Victoria from across Australia for distribution at several disaster zones.
Farmers across Australia have come together in solidarity to help fellow farmers in Victoria and Queensland devastated by the catastrophic floods in the north, and the worst bushfires the nation has ever seen across the south. While the loss of life in Victoria and several drownings in Queensland have dominated all emergency efforts, farmers in other States have begun rallying to collect money, fodder, fencing and other farming supplies to send into the two disaster zones once both emergency situations ease. Victorian Farmers Federation president, Simon Ramsay, said it is still too early to accurately determine how much devastation has been caused on farms and how much help will be needed. But he says agriculture has been very lucky compared to the destruction and loss of life in more peri-urban areas. Teams are also being pulled together to help start the huge job of repairing destroyed fencing, while the call is out for offers of agistment for livestock.
