Australia-Four Months prison for stealing meat.

A MAN who stole cold meats, pizza and a tub of coleslaw before secreting the items down his pants and walking from a Golden Square supermarket has been jailed for four months.

Before he was arrested Geoffrey Scott Threlfall wandered past an open car window where he also stole a wrapped souvlaki and stereo.

He was arrested by police drunkenly stumbling down the street devouring the goods.

Prosecutor Sergeant Brett Sheppard said Threlfall stole the items just 10 days after he stole three bottles of bourbon and a 24-pack of beer from a First Choice Liquor Store.

Threlfall, 35, pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates Court yesterday to charges of theft, theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a shop, drink-driving, unlicensed driving and dealing with property suspected to be from the proceeds of crime.

His lawyer Andrew Halphen acknowledged Threlfall had also breached three community-based order in the past 12 months.

However, he asked the court to consider a fourth order.Magistrate Richard Wright described the request as "ambitious".

Threlfall pleaded guilty to stealing an unlocked car, parked in a Golden Square supermarket on December 14 last year.

Sergeant Sheppard told the court that about 4.45pm the $18,000 car was stolen, together with about $28 in coins from inside the vehicle.

Police located Threlfall that afternoon.

He recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.108 and was holding a Commonwealth Bank chequebook previously reported stolen from a Seymour man.

Mr Halphen said he knew sentencing options were limited.

However, he said Threlfall was still capable of contributing positively to society, arguing the incidents were all precipitated by significant substance abuse.

He told the court Threlfall was now attending church in prison and had completed a number of drug courses.

Threlfall was convicted and sentenced to four months’ jail.

With time already served, he is due for release in May.

He was also banned from driving for 20 months.
