Craig Mostyn Group, an 85 year old Australian company, from Freemantle in Western Australia, has acquired the pork business of George Weston Foods and Watson Foods.
Announcing the acquisition CEO of Craig Mostyn, David Locke, said , the investment would further strengthen their commitment to the PPC/Linley Valley brand.
Westons have a 4,000 sow piggery and contract fatten pigs all over the state.
Linley Valley process 98% of the pigs in WA, which is around 600,000 pigs a year, in the only export abattoir for pigs in the state.
The complex that has had several millions invested, has a state-of the-art boning plant and offers complete traceability.
The Australian Pig Breeders Association, representative for WA Chris Doddoff ,said that he is concerned about the purchase saying "It encouraged a monopoly".
