GOAT PRODUCTION.
The government of Queensland, Australia , is encouraging sheep farmers to look hard at the benefits of goat production, as an alternative to sheep farming on the dry outback properties.
Queensland currently produces one third of the countries goats, that make up a $23 million export industry, and the government suggest that the goats are more hardy than sheep in drought conditions.
Department of Primary Industries Minister, Morgan Gronold said "There is a developing interest from Asian countries, especially Malaysia and the Philippines and in a nutshell many of these countries have eaten themselves out of goats, we can help them re-build numbers with live shipping to these countries".
The Minister went on to say that his office, had received one inquiry for 50,000 breeding goats to be flown to Asia, to start a re-building program
