AUSTRALIA-JUMP IN PRICE OF WEANER CATTLE.

Cashed up buyers from northern NSW and southern Queensland are putting a floor in the weaner market as they continue a mass purchasing spree.

In the past couple of weeks about 50,000 weaners have gone under the hammer at a run of sales throughout NSW and Victoria.

And buyers with heavy pockets were keen to stock up with British bred and European bred cattle in the hope of buoyant returns down the track.

In the south, weaners weighing as little as 190 to 220 kilograms fetched in excess of 200 cents a kilogram, while heaver cattle, weighing 300 to 340 kilograms, made 175c/kg to 200c/kg.

In contrast to the weaner sales early last year, buyers were almost assured of getting their money back after paying what can still be considered high prices.
