AUSTRALIA-LIVESTOCK LOSSES IN FLOODS.
The record wet season in north-west Queensland is taking its toll on livestock.
Vast areas of the region have been inundated since early January
Don McDonald from Devencourt, 70 kilometres south-west of Cloncurry, says while parts of the region look a picture, in others stock losses will be massive and little can be done about it.
"No-one who owns stock, who loves stock, is enjoying what they are going through, and unfortunately, if we had all the helicopters of the airforce and probably some other airforces, and all the hay that was perhaps needed at your disposal, it’s just not possible to get much relief," he says.
"The area is so great, the stock numbers are so great, and of course the climatic conditions and the weather are making it very difficult, so unfortunately with the best intentions in the world, there is not a lot that can be done about it."
