AUSTRALIA-MANUFACTURING BEEF TO US.

The US imported beef market this week saw stronger prices in US$ terms, with imported 90CL cow beef up 2¢ on last week, to 125.5US¢/lb CIF. Unfortunately prices moved in the opposite direction in A$ terms, as the US$ depreciated.

Reports are indicating that US buyers continue to trade on an ’as needed’ basis, trying to limit their forward exposure on imported beef purchases. This is contributing to a volatile market, alongside uncertain US beef demand and fluctuating currency markets.

Like importers, foodservice operators are starting to run on tight inventories. The fast approaching "grilling season" is also likely to amplify changes in demand.
