Southern orders from south and central Gippsland, south western Victoria and a number of southern feedlots, warded off an improved level of northern support at the Ballarat feature steer sale on Friday.
Paying rates averaging 160c/kg liveweight for grown steers and 165-185c/kg for the bulk of the weaners, the market traded fully $30-$40 a head above expectations for the 4000 head offered.
