Australia-Sheep from the Yorkshire Dales.
AUSTRALIA.
CORRIEDALE SHEEP MAKE AN IMPACT.
In 1926 the first Merino sheep were imported to Patagonia in the far south of Argentina. The land was only suitable for sheep and the Merino sheep had a premium price for their fine wool.
Unfortunately in the Antarctic winter they all died of the cold. The answer was found by importing the hardy Corriedale sheep, from the cold moors of north of Yorkshire and crossing the Corriedale ewes with Merino rams.
The rest is history, now 90 years later the farmers in the cold parts of South Australia have realized the same benefits.
Despite the fact Corriedales have been in the country for over 100 years. The Cole family of the Corriedale Stud at West Cloven Hills in Victoria, have been breeding the sheep for six generations and maintain a Corriedale ewe today, can return $100 per year in lambs and wool.
