The Milk House in Sissinghurst will be showing its support for the future of Kent farming by sponsoring Kent Young Farmers’ Clubs at this year’s Kent County Show in Detling from 10–12 July 2015. The award-winning pub, which prides itself on its seasonal menus showcasing the best local produce, will be supplying more than 50 lunch packs – containing carefully selected Kentish treats – for this year’s show judges.
The delicious local produce, which will help sustain judges during the 30 KYFC classes at the three-day event, is drawn from the best of The Milk House’s suppliers, including Frankie’s Farmshop bread, Ashmore Farmhouse cheddar, Park Farm ham, Old Dairy Brewery chutney, Kent Crisps and Chegworth Valley juice.
The Kent Young Farmers’ Clubs have a large area at the Kent County Show, with young people aged 10 to 26 competing for trophies and awards from eight school farms across Kent. The Kent Federation also includes 11 open clubs based throughout the county, making the annual Kent County Show the largest gathering of Young Farmers in Europe with more than 300 members competing.
Dane Allchorne, owner and executive head chef at The Milk House says: “Since opening it’s been important for us to work closely with the food and drink producers on our doorstep, in order to support a locally-based food economy that can benefit everyone in the community. We areenormously lucky to be surrounded by such a strong food and farming network and we’re delighted to invest in its future by supporting KYFC at this year’s Kent County Show.”
Joe McAuley, KYFC chairman says: “The Kent County Show is a major event for farming, countryside and rural life. It brings together the very best of Kent, with animals and food, fun and excitement, and offers young farmers in Kent the opportunity to meet one another and receive recognition for all their hard work. It’s the most important event in our calendar, but it also absorbs a huge chunk of our annual budget, so we are extremely grateful for The Milk House’s generosity.”
