Bigger farms, fewer farmers
The most recent Statistics Canada report signals a historic low in farm populations and farming communities in the Lloydminster region aren’t surprised by the findings.
"I don’t think the points they have in the reports are a surprise to absolutely anyone," said Darrell Hickman, farm manager at Lakeland College in Vermilion. "We have known for 15 years that the farming population has continued to age and that the number of farmers has gone down and that the operation are getting larger. That hasn’t changed."
