Book now for British Potato 2007

A day spent at next week's British Potato 2007 (BP2007) will bring you at least a dozen really valuable pointers to take your business forward with confidence, pledges event organiser the British Potato Council (BPC). As many as 6000 visitors are expected to attend the two-day event, which is sponsored by Branston Ltd and takes place at the Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate on November 28 and 29.

Visitors are urged to book early through a new online booking system, set up at www.potato.org.uk/bp2007. Registering beforehand means no need to fill out a form on arrival, explains BPC's Kathryn Race. "We've introduced savings for multiple bookings made in advance – you pay over 40% less than the standard gate price of £14 for extra tickets purchased," she adds.

"Like Cereals and other focused industry events, we know that BP2007 is going to be well-attended. This is why we want as many people as possible to pre-register, which will ease any potential bottlenecks on the day."

Billed as the not-to-miss event for anyone involved in the British potato industry, BP2007 comprises a trade show, conference and an industry dinner. The two-day event is where the potato industry does business, and all of Europe's leading potato buyers, suppliers and advisers will be represented in the trade stands that were booked out several months ago, according to organisers.

In the BPC conference, sponsored by McCain Foods and entitled A Challenging Future, industry experts detail how climate change and shifts in consumer behaviour will affect the potato industry. This takes place in the afternoon of November 28, and places must be booked in advance, points out Ms Race. "In line with previous BPC conferences, we're expecting this to be over-subscribed. Early booking numbers show that a third of places had already gone a month before the event."

The BPC stand lies at the heart of Hall 1 and hosts the technical seminars, entitled Managing Change. Topics include action for stored crop quality and the latest on changing blight populations. Catchment-sensitive farming, new seed rate recommendations and reducing energy use in storage round up the seminar programme. The event also provides the ideal opportunity to discuss farm plans or new levy board arrangements with BPC staff or a host of industry experts. A new Wall of Knowledge on the BPC stand is the focal point for levy-payers to get easy access to a vast array of research-based information.

"All of the staff at the BPC have put a lot of effort into preparing for this event and we are confident every visitor will find at least a dozen really valuable pointers for their business. With the changes the industry is currently going through, you'd be unwise to miss out on this opportunity," concludes Ms Race.
