BRAZIL-JBS-FRIBOI FALLOUT FROM SWINE FEVER.

JBS SA, the world’s biggest beef producer, said it will maintain revenue and profitability goals amid a swine flu outbreak that has killed more than 100 people.

"An eventual consumption decline of pork products would represent an equivalent increase in demand for beef," Sao Paulo-based JBS said in a regulatory filing. "JBS is basically a beef company."

Pork products represent 14 percent of the company’s net sales, according to today’s statement. JBS operates three pork slaughterhouses in the U.S., with a capacity of 47,900 pigs a day, making it the country’s third-largest pork producer, the company has said.

JBS slid the most in six months in Sao Paulo trading today on concern an outbreak of swine flu will lead to lower consumption of the company’s U.S.-produced pork.
