Brazilian meatpacker JBS SA (JBSS3.BR) is willing to

assess partnerships with meatpackers facing financial difficulties in Brazil,

reported local newspaper valor Economico Thursday.

"We are open to listening to proposals from meatpackers that would fit into

our strategy and our philosophy," Valor reported JBS’s Jose Batista Junior as

saying.

JBS was unavailable for further comment.

The announcement came after local meatpacker Independencia Alimentos Ltda,

Brazil’s fifth-largest beef company, this week filed for protection from

creditors due to a sharp drop in beef demand from Russia and insufficient

access to credit.

JBS said recently that it is planning to increase output and hire up to 5,000

workers despite the problems faced by competitors.
