Brazil-Norway donates US$1 billion to Amazon Rainforest.

BRAZIL.

$1 BILLION FROM NORWAY.

Norway have pledged one billion dollars by 2015, for the Amazon rain forests in Brazil.

This is on condition, that the government of Brazil act now to prevent any further de-forestation.

The Prime Minister of Norway, Jen Stoltenberg, made the announcement in Brasilia, during his visit to Brazil in November.

The donation is the first of a $21 billion preservation fund, that is being put into place to compensate loggers and preserve the forests.

Brazil had slowed de-forestation between 2005-2007, high commodity prices are making the task far more difficult in 2008.

Japan, Germany, South Korea and Switzerland, have pledged to support the fund
