Breeding ewes trade at Shrewsbury

The first seasonal entry of 275 breeding ewes at Shrewsbury Auction Centre met with a "tremendous" trade on Tuesday.

Top prices of the day went to Suffolk ewes from J. R. Lay Farms, Wolverley, which sold for £142 a head and from Mr J. H. Hockenhull, Nantwich, which sold for £138 a head.

"Despite being considered early for a sale of breeding ewes, the trade was tremendous," said auctioneer John Rossiter from Halls. "There was a vast number of purchasers present looking to buy and we are expecting another strong entry for our next sale of breeding ewes on July 20."
