British Friesian herd in great demand at Shrewsbury auction

The sale of a British Friesian herd belonging to Messrs A. and H. Francis and Son, Marton, Welshpool bucked current trends and sold to a very fast trade at Shrewsbury Auction Centre on Tuesday.

Cows by Parbury Venue and heifers by Winnoch Umpire both sold to £1,020 as 105 head averaged £756. Trade was so keen that a considerable number of prospective buyers failed to make a purchase.

“This was a herd exceptionally well presented, of good frame, with long lasting cows entirely based on Friesian bulls for ease of management,” said auctioneer David Giles, a director of Halls. “A herd average of 6,358 kilos was achieved substantially off forage.”

In the same auction, Holstein heifers sold to £1,750 for a home bred heifer from Richard Howard of Ellesmere by Masquerade Red.
