British Recycler goes for Gold by Eating up all our Greens

An innovative British recycling company has been nominated for a prestigious award - just 14 weeks after launching.

Vertal opened its first hi-tech food waste processing plant in Mitcham, South London early in 2010.

Each year, the £3.5 million facility will divert around 100,000 tonnes of London’s food waste from landfill, transforming it instead into a rich agricultural fertiliser to grow new crops.

Now its innovative design has been nominated for a prestigious Award for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management, supported by DEFRA and the Environment Agency.
