Brits love to rustle up Indian and Chinese food from leftover chicken

A fifth of people say they throw their leftovers from a whole chicken in the bin instead of using it up to make nutritious and economical meals.

The survey, commissioned for the Love Chicken website, also reveals some good news; a staggering 61 per cent of people do buy a whole chicken at least once a month. To encourage consumers to do more with their whole chicken, the Love Chicken campaign is offering free, downloadable recipes.

Kelly Watson, NFU poultry adviser, said: "Chicken has always been one of the most popular meats in the country and it’s good to see that so many people see the benefits of buying a whole chicken – whether that’s to save time or money.

"The survey revealed that some people would like to get more out of their chicken but lack the confidence to try something new. The Love Chicken website is a one-stop shop where people can find new recipes, share their favourites and find out more about making extra meals from just one bird.

"What we have found is people who do use their left-over meat are getting more adventurous turning the traditional British Sunday dinner into a host of tasty dishes. Our survey found that Indian cuisine comes top of the menu closely followed by Chinese, Mexican and Thai."

Anyone visiting the website should check out the new competition to win £200 worth of Marks and Spencer vouchers.
