Bull destroyed after farmer, 74, fatally injured

A farmer who died at the weekend may have been gored in the chest by a bull, his son-in-law said today.

Graham Evans, 74, a former Rotary Club president and a parish councillor in his Somerset village, suffered fatal internal injuries during the incident at Hinton Park Farm near Crewkerne.

The tragedy happened on Saturday morning when Mr Evans called in at the farm, which is run by his daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Ed Ruell.

Mr Ruell said today: "We don't know for sure what happened. There were no witnesses. He came to the farm that day to help out. An employee found him walking back to his vehicle holding his chest. He didn't collapse inside the bull pen.

"He was taken to hospital by air ambulance and died that day. All we know is that he suffered multiple injuries.

"I can't say that he was attacked by a bull because nobody saw what happened. I wouldn't rule it out. The animal has been destroyed as a precaution.

"He was very well-respected and will be badly missed by his wife, his two daughters and all the employees. It is devastating."
